About the project

Axonometry - a technological startup - approached ExploreIT at a very early, conceptual stage of the project. Apart from the general assumption of basing innovation on the use of EMG to support speech therapy, the company’s coherent vision of the system was yet to appear. We were given the task of developing a comprehensive, functional and technical project and a GUI in the form of a clickable high-fidelity prototype.

Approach

The main design challenge was the necessity to consider the numerous motor limitations of people with aphasia. It was also essential to define EMG in the process, both at the diagnosis and therapy stage. To ensure the solution's usefulness, we confronted the application's idea with the users' group's needs - i.e. speech therapists and patient caregivers. We also dig deep into the subject by doing a complete literature review.

Solution

The clickable high fidelity prototype produced in only three weeks allowed the company to refine the initial assumptions and move forward with the product. Working closely with the speech therapists and patient caregivers has made us rethink the basic idea and substantially enhance the software functionality. The research report and fully clickable prototype allowed Axonometry to obtain a high score (19/20) in the expert assessment summarising the pre-incubation phase of the project.
